2022.01.17 15:24 bredboii Preparing my first pile, is there a benefit to having it in a container?

I have some scraps saved and I'm going to start a pile when the weather warms up a little. Is there a difference between having it in a contained bin (made out of wood to hold it in) or a pile directly on the ground? I don't care about how it looks, there's a little spot out of eye sight that I'm putting it.

2022.01.17 15:24 Available_Expression [QUESTION][GEAR] pickup wiring question

I redid one of my strats and used the HSS wiring diagram from Seymour Duncan. I noticed that I'm still getting signal through even when the volume knob is set to 0. It mostly isn't noticeable but if I have any overdrive, fuzz, or distortion pedal turned on, you can really hear it. I've rewired dozens of guitars over the years and not run into this. Any ideas of what could cause that? The pots are dimarzio custom taper.

Other than this breakage, my prints seem pretty great to me. It is about 1 out of 5 copies that fail, but they fail just like this and always on the left. I'm wondering if there is something up with how I'm doing support? The bottom of the hook is a ball.
This is my first printer and I've had it for about a week.
Creality Ender 3 V2
I am using 100% infill (for finished product strength), line pattern
Support: Everywhere, overhang 40 degrees

2022.01.17 15:24 JamboJim69 Have an option to disable voicelines from PMC

It would be great if we could have an option to disable pre recorded voiceline from pmc. I'm fucking tired to be insulted all the time. I know it suppose to give me an avantage with the position and so (let's assume the audio is accurate), but if someone want to insult me, let it be using VOIP and not a random press of a button. I mean him/her to actually make the effort of insulting me, not just hitting F5 or whatever.
I feel sad everytime i'm getting yelled at with those pre recorded voice. It's not the same with VOIP because First i still can disable it. Second it's funny to listen to real people and not the same insult over and over.
I just had an encounter with 3 people spaming voicelines, it was horrendous. Killed 2 and ran away from the third. Each time i get killed or I kill someone spaming that it rages me. I want to play this awesome game in a good mood. Not Everyone in tarkov should be able to call me a bastard or a motherfucker. They should use VOIP and insult me with their voice and expression if they want to.
I hope this post reaches, i'm feeling pretty sad about playing and getting taunt by those voicelines all the time.

[WP] You're considered the worst spy in the agency. Which is funny because your doing what a soy should do, and you're pretty damn good at it. [Link]
“Benton, you’re assigned to the Kyoto case with Greenbaum,” my handler said. “Your flight’s tomorrow morning.”
Which meant there wasn’t enough time for me to request another partner or another case. The superiors didn’t like when we questioned our orders, but I had to take a risk. Greenbaum was a walking hazard zone, an accident waiting to happen.
“Are you sure there isn’t anyone else?” I asked, desperately hoping there was. “To replace me? Or her?”
“No one else. It’s you and Greenbaum,” Tan said.
It made no sense that the superiors had assigned something so important as the Kyoto case to Greenbaum. I’d seen her around the office sometimes, her frumpy outfits always a bit too loose or a bit too tight, her too-open smile. She tripped over nothing occasionally, and tripped over clearly visible obstacles constantly. People avoided her like the plague when she was carrying coffee, as spills were almost inevitable.
I couldn’t imagine the sort of chaos she’d bring to a case, especially in a foreign country. She approached me as my handler left.
“Howdy pard-ner!” she said, her smile so sincere it seemed to mock my own despondency.
“Hello,” I replied.
If this mission failed, my plans of becoming the director of the organization by fifty would be toast. No doubt another failure would hardly change Greenbaum’s prospects. It was a miracle she still had a job. The last time she’d been reprimanded by the director, it had been… it had only been because of her not filling out the paperwork correctly. I tried to remember a failed mission of hers, and my mind drew a blank.
Her mission in Kandahar had taken longer than anticipated, but at the last moment she lucked out with an anonymous tip that led us to the terrorists’ hideout. The one before hadn’t been a failure either. She’d spent three months in the thick of the Amazon, somehow avoiding malaria and all the other mosquito-borne illnesses, and emerged with the leader of the cartel supplying cocaine to half the Eastern seaboard. She’d attributed that success to an Interpol agent who helped her, although we never saw the agent she mentioned. Her old partner had been an asset too, an experienced agent that was efficient and stoic. He’d retired a few months ago, and since then, she had been working solo.
As I thought further back, even to the days right after my training was completed and I was made a field agent, I couldn’t remember a single case of Greenbaum’s that had failed. Her identity had never been compromised, and little to no casualties. Sometimes it took longer than expected, and sometimes went over budget, but the job got done. Was she talented in a way I was missing? Was she ridiculously lucky? Or was she hiding something?
“Penny for your thoughts?” she asked, waving a hand in front of my face.
“Just thinking,” I answered. “See you tomorrow.”
“See ya!” Greenbaum said, turning around on the heel of her shoe. I turned the corner and watched her in the wide open space of our main floor. She smoothed down the cotton of her blouse and proceeded to walk back to her own office. Her stride was even and elegant, and as she loosened her shoulders she seemed to take on another persona.
“For a spy, you’re rather horrible at sneaking around,” she said, turning to face me. She smiled, this time close-lipped and knowing. “It’s okay though. I’m good enough for both of us. I suppose I couldn’t keep it from you, since we’re partners and all.”
“Why?” I asked.
“Because it’s easier to climb the ranks when no one’s trying to pull you down,” Greenbaum said. “Did anyone try to steal my assignments away from me, or to piggyback off of my work? No. Because they thought that those assignments meant nothing, or that I would fail and drag them down with me. I’ve seen how the others treat you, Benton. They’re waiting to reveal the golden boy of this agency to be nothing but fool’s gold. Me? They just ignore me. The water cooler gossips may call me butterfingers, Clumsiella, or loser, but in the case files I’m a competent, professional agent. While you’re all busy beings crabs in a barrel, I’m this close to being promoted to senior agent. Maybe even be the director of this place by age forty five.”

2022.01.17 15:24 SpectrumDT Reen and Rashek: Mistborn has a weird portrayal of abusive relationships

I recently finished The Hero of Ages. One thing I noticed is the series's portrayal of abusive relationships.
There are at least two badly abusive relationships that play a large role in the books.
The first one is that between Vin and Reen. AFAIR, Vin says that she hates Reen but also "loves" him. She believes that he abused her for her own good, to teach her how to survive, because he "loved" her.
Here I believe it is vital to note that Sanderson uses the term love to mean two completely different things. In the romance arc, Vin and Elend conclude that to love someone means to trust them and respect their wishes. The "love" between Vin and Reen is clearly a completely different thing. It is nothing like trust or respect. In this context, apparently to love someone means to want them to survive.
I will not claim that one of these is "really" love and the other is not, because love is indisputably an umbrella term that can refer to a variety of things. But I think it is obvious that these are two very different things. IMO love-as-protectiveness is a paltry thing compared to love-as-respect. The former very easily turns abusive, whereas the latter is much more robust and healthier.
Considering how many repetitions Sanderson spend to hammer home the point that Vin and Elend's love is supposed to be based on respect, I find it disappointing that he doesn't remark on the fact that he also uses the same term to mean something else. Especially because this is such a common misconception. I will claim that most people don't realise how ambiguous the umbrella term love is. Most people, in my experience, blindly assume that anything that falls under the umbrella of love is good and admirable, failing to understand that the umbrella also covers a number of things that are unhealthy and not admirable.
The second major abusive relationship in Mistborn is that between Rashek and his Final Empire. The series spends the whole first book showing us the monstrous evil of the Lord Ruler and his empire, and then it spends two books trying to exonerate him. It is not explicitly said that he "loves" his people, but he clearly wants humanity to survive and tells himself that this end justifies his means. I see a strong parallel between Rashek and Reen.
(There is also a highly dysfunctional relationship between Zane and Straff, but I don't have much to say about that, mainly because those characters don't interest me as much.)
In both cases, the books seem to try to legitimise an abusive relationship because the abuser allegedly has good intentions. Instead of concluding that "the abuser was awful but also did some good", the books seem to lean heavily in the direction of turning the other cheek.
I'm uncomfortable with that.
